Math: In our number sense unit we have represented and compared numbers to 1000. Then we moved on to 3 digit addition with and without regrouping. After that we practiced rounding numbers to the nearest ten and hundred to help us estimate answers to addition problems. The reason we do this is so we can check to see if our real answer is reasonable. To help us learn how to round, we listened to the following songs. We are now moving on to 3 digit subtraction with and without regrouping.

Language: We finished a unit on paragraph writing. This week we are focusing on reading comprehension and reading responses. We are reading short texts and then using learned strategies to answer multiple choice questions and short answer questions about the text.

Science: Our forces and movement unit is coming to an end. This week the students have planned and constructed devices to slow a moving object. We will test these devices and discuss how the design helped to slow the object. We will also reflect upon how the designs could be improved for next time.

Here we are building, testing, and making adjustments to the design before our real drops!

In math we are finishing our geometry unit. This past week, we charted the properties of 3D figures, constructed nets, and identified 2D shapes found on 3D figures.

What 3D figure is made of these faces?

In science we have been discussing and experimenting with forces. We have learned about gravity, buoyancy, friction, muscular, magnetic, and static electric force. Here we are having some science fun!

After our anti-bullying assembly last week we did some activities to reinforce the messages and to encourage positive interactions between the students. Here are some pictures of one activity. Ask your child to explain what the activity was about!

We also had our art fair last week. If you were unable to make it, here is a look at our beautiful art!

In math we are working on properties of 2D shapes. In small groups, the students made posters for our bulletin board. See below.

We are wrapping up our unit on time. Today the kids worked through some time centres. The centres included time bingo, SmartBoard games, an I spy scavenger hunt, and a time worksheet. Tomorrow we will have a little time quiz, and then off to our unit on geometry!
